No. 7 Game of 2008
Sixth-ranked West Potomac (3-0) traveled up Route 1 to Franconia with a trio of impressive road wins under its belt, and the rest of the region taking notice.
Lee (1-2) was coming off its first win of the year, but that was a decisive, 23-10 victory over Centreville. If the Lancers could beat the Wolverines, they would make great headway towards a playoff position in Division 5.
West Potomac senior quarterback Cole Walter threw for three touchdowns of 51 yards or more, two to standout senior Kristian Rodriguez, but three rushing touchdowns by Lee junior Jazmier Williams and five interceptions by the Lancer secondary — three by junior Jameel Pitt — kept the game deadlocked and forced overtime.
The Lancers had a short field goal to win the game outright in the first sudden-death period, but it came out low and was blocked.
Walter found senior receiver Charles Johnson for what proved the game-winning score in the second overtime and West Potomac escaped with a seven-point road win.
