BXC: North Central's Zeinasellassi wins semi-state

Cool is good, cold is bad. That is the rule of thumb among cross country runners. So, the chilly, blustery conditions Saturday morning at the Carmel Semi-State weren’t exactly conducive to great performances. However, you could not have told it by the performance of #1 Columbus North. Once again, the Bull Dogs dominated the field in running away with the team title.

These Dogs run in a pack and seem impervious to all obstacles, be they natural or human. Columbus North placed five runners in the top 12 of the team scoring enroute to compiling just 44 points and overwhelming second place Noblesville who ended with 101. The difference in time between the top Bull Dog runner and the fifth member of the team was a mere 25 seconds. Andrew Diehn led the assault, finishing fifth in the scoring and sixth overall in a time of 15:46.9.

Sensational North Central sophomore Futsum Zeinasellassi won the individual competition in a time of 15:16.5. That was more than 20 seconds ahead of second place Scott Vicenzi of Brownsburg. Zeinasellassi’s effort led North Central to a fourth place team finish. Rounding out the top five teams advancing to the state finals were Carmel in third and Zionsville in fifth.
