Kellie Christian, soon to be a senior at Catonsville High School, competed in the USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina on the campus of UNC-Charlotte this pastweekend. This Championship event is a national competition with entry based upon qualifying standards for each event. This event attracted over 2,000 athletes from across the country.
Kellie, who is primarily known for her sprinting ability was representing her summer track club, Catonsville Cougars where she participated in the javelin throw competition. Kellie had previously thrown the mini javelin back in 2003 at a national meet; however, she did not have much exposure throwing a full size javelin. In a field of 10 serious contenders, Kellie won the gold with a throw of 32.16 meters to become the national champion. Hanna DuBois from Frederick, MD was a close second with a throw of 32.12 meters and the third place went to Bianca Mata from Nebraska with a throw of 31.11.
