For many of Catonsville's returning players, and the eight starters who are back, in particular, the ending to last year's season was difficult to swallow.

"We're pumped for this season. We hope to work as hard as we can, day in and day out. If we do that, we have a lot of potential for great things to come," said senior attackman Matt Reymann, whose Comets finished at 13-4 following a Class 3A-2A Regional final loss at Fallston of Harford County.

The Comets are unbeaten on their home field, which, last spring, became Baltimore County's first artificial surface to be unveiled.

"The turf field has brought a tremendous atmophere that brings a lot of excitement and intensity," Reymann said. "It just creates a game situation where we're all pumped up and ready to give it our all. It's an exciting place to be, the fans are great, and we love playing on it."

In addition to county regular-season stalwarts, such as Dulaney, Franklin and Hereford, Comets' coach Jeff Mohler has scheduled Mount St. Joseph on Saturday, and Severn -- both of the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association's A Conference, considered the nation's premiere high school lacrosse league.

"With a good corps of seniors back, along with some young players, I think it's a real good mix that we have, and they're working hard," said Mohler. "It might takes us a while to get to spot where we want to be, athletically and lacrosse-wise, but come playoff time, I think we'll be ready to go."

The Comets' winning streak at home is beleived to have reached eight games, Mohler said.
