Mooresville raced out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter Sept. 4 and went on to handily defeat visiting Decatur Central, 35-14, in the Mid-State Conference opener for both schools.

Junior running back Aric Bigham (22 carries, 119 yards) rushed for three touchdowns for the victorious Pioneers (2-1). After quarterback Andrew Gibson (5 of 8 for 122 yards and one interception) hit Todd Hacker on a 28-yard TD pass to start the scoring, Bigham tallied on runs of two and five yards to put the hosts up 21-0 after one.

But Decatur Central (1-2) answered on a three-yard run from RB Cody Turner, and the Hawks will perilously close to paydirt again just before the half when Mooresville’s James Ringer scooped up a fumble and rumbled 92 yards for a 28-7 advantage at intermission.

The Pioneers pushed the lead to four touchdowns on Bigham’s third, a 54-yard run in the third quarter. Decatur then closed the scoring on a 34-yard pass from QB Brandon Ledford (11 of 17 for 146 yards passing, 19 carries for 79 yards rushing) to Travis Powers.

Mooresville will challenge Franklin (1-2), a 45-7 Week 3 loser at 4A No. 14 Shelbyville, next Saturday at 5:30 p.m. ET in Lucas Oil Stadium as part of the quadrupleheader Ivy Tech Invitational. Decatur Central (1-2) will host 5A No. 24 Martinsville (3-0), a 42-21 Week 2 winner over Greenwood.
