PLAINFIELD – The Class 4A Sectional 13 tipped off Feb. 13 with defending sectional champion Martinsville taking on Mid-State Conference foe Mooresville. Sophomore guard Jama Sharp poured in 21 points, senior guard and sister Cora Sharp added 13, and junior guard Sierra Chabra contributed 10 to give the Class 4A No. 7 Pioneers an easy 66-43 victory over the Artesians.
The game was close for the first quarter as the Pioneers actually trailed 15-13 as the period ended. But Mooresville (20-1) assumed control of the game in the second quarter, taking a commanding 33-20 halftime lead.
The Pioneers salted away the game by outscoring the Artesians 16-2 in the third quarter.
Martinsville (9-11) scrapped all night long but was no match for Mooresville, similar to the teams’ previous meeting of the season in a 70-58 Mooresville road win back on Nov. 26. Senior guard Carly Cramer topped Martinsville with 14 points, while Kelsey Henselmeier added nine.
In Game 2, Terre Haute North played without three girls who apparently quit the team following Wednesday’s win over Northview as the Patriots were thumped, 70-43, by host 4A fifth-ranked Plainfield (19-1).
The Quakers went on a 16-0 run in the third quarter to push the lead to 30 before coasting. Kasey Johnson led three Plainfield players in double digits with 14 points. Danielle Ketner paced Terre Haute North (8-13) with 12 points, while Lindy Jones added 11.
