It may sound a little insulting, but Carmel faced a very tough task in the North Montgomery Regional Wednesday evening. The draw had the Greyhounds facing small school entrant Fountain Central in the first round. The Mustangs possessed some quality athletes, but overall were nowhere nearly as skilled or tactically sound as Carmel. It showed as the Greyhounds romped to a 46-9 victory. Less than 20 minutes later, Carmel faced $4 Indianapolis Cathedral for the title. The Irish do not have any of the liabilities of Fountain Central. It had to be difficult for the Greyhounds to adjust so rapidly. In any event, Cathedral coasted to a 45-18 victory and a spot in the eight team state finals in two weeks.
