PATRIOTS POUND THE PANTHERS IN SHUTOUT VICTORY

Junior Wade Bush was given his second start on the mound versus the Riverton Parke Panthers. Through the first two innings, the tall right-hander had collected six strikeouts while allowing a single and a baserunner who reached on an infield error. Throughout the remaining three innings, it appeared Bush got stronger with each pitch. Though he added only one more strikeout to his cause, Wade hit his spots more consistently and made good use of his fielders by pitching to contact. All-in-all, his effort on the mound was the most impressive pitching performance for the Patriots during the early part of the season.

Offensively, Terre Haute North continued to hit the ball at a high rate. Senior Joe Meggs led the attack with three hits in three at-bats, including a double and three runs scored. Meggs also reached base by getting hit by a pitch and collected a stolen base. Junior Michael Eberle picked up his first two home runs of the season while going 2-for-3 at the plate. Eberle added three runs batted in and two runs scored on the night. Solo home runs were also hit by senior Mark Merrill and junior Jared Eller. Both homers were the player’s first of the season. Eller’s solo shot was his first on the varsity level.

The Patriots’ 14-hit parade also included:  a single by junior Billy Sisson (1-for-3); a 2-for-4 night by senior Brandon Dorsett who also had two runs batted in and three runs scored; a single by junior Nick Pilipovich (1-for-2, RBI, and a walk); a single by senior Andrew Bledsoe (1-for-2, run scored); and doubles by senior Keaton Sumner (1-for-2, RBI) and junior J.T. Bailey (1-for-1, RBI, run scored).

Not to be forgotten during the Wabash Valley clash was the one error performance by the Patriot defense. This has proven to be the best defensive effort of the seven games played thus far.

Terre Haute North is now 3-4 on the season and plays host to the Fountain Central Mustangs Wednesday, April 9th, in a 7pm contest at Patriot Field. Riverton Parke is presently 0-5.
