FIRST INNING PROVES COSTLY FOR TERRE HAUTE NORTH
Terre Haute North’s baseball team sent five batters to the plate in the top half of the first inning Friday night but could not get on the scoreboard stranding runners at second and third base, respectively. Bloomington South’s Panthers managed to be somewhat more productive as they sent 13 batters to the plate including 9 of the first 10 who reached base in taking an early 7-0 lead.
A bright spot for the Patriots, however, was the 7 innings of “relief” pitching displayed by sophomore Shawn Walker and the solo home run he hit in his first varsity at-bat during the top of the second inning. North was able to put six runs on the board but fell to the Panthers by a final score of 10-6. Senior Joe Meggs was the leading hitter for the Patriots going 3-for-4 on the night with a double, 3 RBI’s, and a run scored. Fellow senior Mark Merrill also had a double and an RBI.
Terre Haute North (7-9) will host the Center Grove Trojans in an MIC doubleheader Saturday.
