Largo head girls' basketball coach Ayana Ball-Ward sat at the edge of the bench with relaxed emotions during Friday night's contest against the Central Lady Falcons.

As she remained cool, calm, and collected, her team played tough, played with tenaciousness and showed its talent in a 92-46 victory, Largo's seventh of the season.

"We did well executing on defense," Ball-Ward said. "We have been working on talking, communicating, and getting everyone on the same page, and they executed all of that well tonight."

The defense held Central to only 14 first-half points on the night and going into the locker room with a 48-14 lead, the Lions cruised through the second half on the way to its victory.

"Well, we are in a trap," Largo's Cierra Johnson said. "We're trapping and rotating, so we get easy steals which means we are close to the basket to get easier buckets."

The stifling defense in fact led to plenty of uncontested baskets, but when the Lions did get into its half-court sets, it was Brianey Winslow with her sensational shooting showcase that featured four three-pointers on her way to a 26-point performance to lead all scorers.

"This was the best shooting game for me," Winslow admitted after the game.

Winslow and Johnson led Largo in scoring with 26 and 18 points, respectively.

"They are two of the three main scorers that we have," Ball-Ward said.

Central found an offensive rhythm during the second half and that rhythm was paced by Marketta Salley as she led Central with 23 points on the night with many of her scores coming in bunches.

Despite being down by a large margin for most of the game, first-year head coach Renee Jamison was pleased with her team's character shown in the loss.

"They pulled it together in the second half and played a little bit of what we call Central basketball," Jamison said. "I reminded them ... play like you know and don't play to the scoreboard. They started playing the scoreboard, starting getting down and that is not what we do.

"I always teach them you have to know how to win and you have to know how to lose. But, when you are losing, you are going to go down fighting."
