Girls Golf: Wabash River Conference Preview

The 2008 IHSAA girls golf season gets underway in earnest on Monday August 4; thus we thought we would give you a sneak preview of the Wabash River Conference teams.

The WRC doesn’t have a conference tournament, as only three schools participate in the sport (Attica, Fountain Central, and Seeger). Thus the regular season is all about preparing for the postseason.

Last year none of the conference schools fared particularly well in the state tournament. In fact, the three WRC schools finished 9th, 10th, and 11th out of eleven participating schools in the Lafayette Jefferson Sectional.

However, both Attica and Fountain Central return significant experience from last year’s teams and will look to improve on their sectional results from a year ago.

Here’s a capsule preview of the three teams from the Wabash River Conference that participate in girls golf.

Attica

2008 Outlook: “The returning three have played for three years now and have experience. My freshman (Claire Swanson) though has got the best talent of the four. Fountain Central

2007 State Tournament Results: Finished 11th at the Lafayette Jefferson Sectional
Returning Starters: 3
Projected Starting Lineup: It is still being determined; but Megan Robinson, Kenzie Lindquist, Shelby Current, Lauren Ritter, Julie Lowe, and Sonja Ponder are all in the running for the five starting spots.
2008 Outlook: “I am hoping that each player will become more fundamentally sound in all aspects of their game. We work a lot on putting, chipping, and driving range work. I hope that each time we go to a meet we can lower our team score, even if by a few strokes.” – Fountain Central coach Michele Stucky

Seeger
Coach: Scott Mathis
