Lafayette Central Catholic completed the task they faced in
claiming the Hoosier Heartland Conference title Wednesday evening by defeating
Clinton Central. Believe me, this one wasn’t easy. The victory ran the Knights
record to 10-0 in league play. It also stretched their conference winning
streak to 40 games in a row over four years. It is the 14th consecutive
season the Knights have claimed the title.
Central Catholic
clung to a 1-0 lead through most of this contest. Repeatedly, sophomore
pitcher Taylor Glaze worked out of jams. His main weapon was the strikeout.
Glaze compiled 13 Ks on the night, including seven over the final three
innings. Nonetheless, he was faced with Bulldog runners on the basepaths eight
times during the game. He answered the challenge every time.
LCC finally gained some breathing room in the top of the
seventh when they scored three insurance runs. The Anthrop boys supplied the
big blows. Dru sacrificed the first run of the inning across the plate and Jade
capped the rally with an RBI single.
