"I told them that there's not a team in this league that can compete with us if we play together," said Rockets' coach Jennifer Pumphrey.

Richard Montgomery coach Jennifer Pumphrey told her Rockets prior to last night's game to "bring the intensity, and, bring the heat."

The Rockets responded by burning their rivals from start to finish.

Porcha Davis scored 11 points, Tasha Lockett added 10 points, and Kiana Davis, nine, as the Richard Montgomery Rockets defeated Covenant Life, 38-12, in Montgomery County Recreation Department girls' varsity basketball action at Watkins Mill High on Wednesday night.

Ashley Fourcade scored four points, with two points each from Devon Miller and MaryKate Mansius in a game that improved the Rockets to 3-2 in the league and helped them to rebound from a loss.

"We came off of a loss, but we had a talk after that game, and then we had a little talk before this game. And I said to basically bring the intensity and to bring the heat and to play as a team, and gel together, and they did that," said Pumphrey, adding "they did exactly what I expected and what I asked of them."

"I told them that there's not a team in this league that can compete with us if we play together," said Pumphrey, adding that "Porcha, Kiana and Tasha are pretty much our most consistent players. They consistently crash the boards, they consistently score, and they work well with each other."

A junior who is a four-sport athlete at Richard Montgomery, Lockett began playing basketball and softball as a freshman, but gave up the latter for lacrosse as a sophomore.

An honors student with a B-average, Locket said she will be a member of the poms' squad starting in the fall.

But  Lockett's immediate concern is helping the Rockets' basketball team.

"We were coming off of a couple of losses, and for us to play as a team, and move the ball and to actually listen to our coach's words was good for us," said Lockett. "Me, Kiana and Porcha moved the ball around very well as a team, and did a lot of good teamwork."
