Senior Chelsy Riggen picked up the pitching win throwing five scoreless innings.

Riverton Parke honored its senior softball players on Tuesday night and then defeated Covington 2-0- the Panthers fifth straight victory.

The win also raised RP's WRC record to 8-3 and remain a 1/2 game behind Rockville for first place.

The Panthers would score both of their runs in the first inning.

Senior Chelsea Myers got the inning started with a single, but was thrown out attempting to steal. Whitney Mathas followed with a single, but remained at first after an infield fly out for the second out. Mathas advanced to third on Megan Vincent's single to right field and Vincent then stole second to put runners in scoring position with two outs. Mikayla Gringle beat out an infield single to score Mathas and Vincent scored on a wild pitch to give RP an early 2-0 lead.

RP would only manage one more hit the rest of the game- a double in the 5th by Myers- but would need no more offense on this evening.

Senior Chelsy Riggen returned to the pitching rubber after missing over a week due to an injury. She showed no signs of rust as she threw five innings allowing only 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5 to even her record at 3-3.

Vincent came in relief in the 6th and struck out 4 while allowing only one hit to pick up her second save of the year.

RP (13-7) will travel to Turkey Run for another WRC game on Thursday.
