North Vermillion and Rockville will play for the IHSAA Softball Sectional #57 championship after winning games on Tuesday night.
In the first game of the evening, Rockville used a 5 run 5th inning to down Covington 6-1.
Covington took a 1-0 lead in the first as Becky Lyons walked and scored on a double by Holly Paris.
That
would turn out to be the only hit for Covington in the entire game as
Rox pitchers Ashley Gordon and Lindsey Greene combined on a one hitter.
Gordon
went 5 innings allowing the one run, walked four, and struck out 8.
Greene went two perfect innings not allowing a base runner and struck
out 4.
Kieran
McMullen started the Rox 5th with a single, followed by a double by
Alise Harper and a walk to Ashley Stevens that loaded the bases.
Kaitlynn Downs laced a 2 RBI single that gave Rockville the lead.
Greene followed one batter later with a 2 out 2 RBI single. Jennifer
Camerer singled and Gordon singled to score Greene with the final run
of the inning.
Rockville added an insurance run in the 7th on another RBI hit by Greene who was 2-4 with a run scored and 3 RBI in the game.
In
game two, North Vermillion's Hannah threw a complete game 4 hitter and
struck out 9 to lead North Vermillion to a 3-0 win over Riverton Parke.
The
Falcons got on the scoreboard in the first innings as consecutive
singles by Hannah Chew, Kylee West, Bethany Chew, and Whitney Davis
gave them a 1-0 lead and the bases loaded with one out.
RP pitcher Megan Vincent struck out the next two batter to stop the rally.
North
Vermillion added its other two runs in the 4th inning. Davis walked and
Miranda Nichols reached on an error and a wild pitch put runners on
second and third. Vincent struck out the next two batters, but Ashley
Corbin and Taylor Pointer came through with two out RBI singles to push
across two more runs.
That
was more than enough run support for Hannah Chew as the Panthers were
able only get two runners aboard in the 5th and 7th innings but each
time with two out and could not break into the scoring column.
The championship game with be played at Riverton Parke at 6:00 pm tonight.
