 North Vermillion won its first ever sectional championship in softball by defeating Rockville 1-0 to win the IHSAA Sectional 57 at Riverton Parke.

Hannah Chew threw a complete game for her second shut out in as many days. She allowed only 2 hits and one walk while striking out 8.

The freshman pitcher threw 14 innings in her teams two wins allowing only 6 hits, one walk, and 17 strikeouts.

She out dueled Rox freshman pitcher Lindsey Greene who went the distance allowing only 6 hits, one walk, and 5 strikeouts.

There was only one base runner for either team the first 3 innings, the Rox Kieran McMullen had a single in the first.

North Vermillion would start a rally in the 4th. Taylor Poynter led off with a single, the first Falcon hit of the game. Chew followed with a bunt and both runners were safe. After two infield pop outs it appeared the Rox may escape the inning. but Whitney Davis lined a single in side the left field foul line to drive in Poynter with what would end up being the games only run.

Chew allowed a lead off single to Alise Harper in the 6th which was followed by a bunt to move the tying run into scoring position, but she retired the next two hitters on a ground out and a diving catch by left fielder Kayla Wilson.

North Vermillion (14-11) advances to the regional at Franklin Central on Saturday, May 31. The Falcons will face the winner of tonight's sectional championship between Indianapolis Lutheran and Eminence.
