Staff Report
Attica and Riverton Parke each posted big wins in the opening round of Class 1A Sectional 54 on Monday night.
In game one Attica defeated North Vermillion 14-1.
North Vermillion took an early 1-0 lead in the first when Austin Boling doubled and scored on a single by Ethan Clark.
Attica
answered by scoring four times in the home half of the first inning and
added seven more in the third inning to break the game open.
Justin
Capps led the Rambler offense going 4-4 with a home run, 2 runs scored
and 4 RBI. Cory Reece was 2-2 and scored twice and Matt Wolfe had a
double, 2 runs scored and pickup up the pitching win going 3 innings.
In game two Riverton Parke used a 10-run 6th inning to pull away and defeat Turkey Run 17-5.
The
Warriors led 1-0 in the 3rd, but RP scored three runs to take the lead.
Coty Moretto started the inning with a single for the first Panther hit
of the game. He advanced to scoring position on a ground out and scored
on a wild pitch to tie the game. Cameron Cox singled and the Panthers
took the lead when Tim Johnson blasted a two-run homer to put RP up 3-1.
Turkey
Run tied the game at 3 in the home half of the 3rd when Brad Henderson
reached on a fielders choice and scored on an error. Austin White
singled, reached second on an error, and scored on an RBI single by
Jathan Daviess.
Riverton Parke retook the lead in the 4th when Brett Brown launched a grand slam home run with two outs in the inning.
The
Warriors cut the lead to 7-4 with an unearned run in the 4th before the
Panthers exploded for their biggest inning of the season in the 5th.
Jarrid
McLaughlin started the inning with a single and scored from first on a
double by Grant Mitchell. After two walks to load the bases, Johnson
drove in a run with an infield single. With the bases still loaded Trey
Ellis hit a ball that was thrown away for an error and came all the way
around to score on a second throwing error. Zach White singled,
McLaughlin walked, and Mitchell drove in his second run of the inning
on a single. Two more Warrior errors led to the final three runs of the
inning.
Cameron
Cox went the distance for the Panthers on the mound to pick up his
first win of the season. We scattered eight hits, only walked one
batter, struck out 6, and only 2 of the five runs he allowed were
earned.
