FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: KYLIE RAMSLAND
300 !!!
Kylie Ramsland had her usually high productive week on
the lacrosse field, and it culminated on Friday with her 300th career point, in
a 12-10 loss to Friends.
If you asked the unassuming Ramsland which she would
have preferred – the 300th point or a win – she would have taken the win in a
heartbeat, according to CCA Coach Katie Lettinga.
The Chapelgate Christian senior and her teammates,
because of recent weather, had to take the field three straight days last week.
CCA defeated St. John’s-CP on Tuesday, 14-10, as Ramsland had two goals and
four assists. Then the next day she scored six goals and added a pair of
assists in a 15-10 victory over Institute of Notre Dame. She capped off the
week with five goals and one assist, as the Yellowjackets just fell short
versus Friends.
It resulted in 13 goals and seven assists, a nice even
20-point week. That would be a great week for most players. It’s a common week
for Ramsland, and has been since her freshman year.
Three hundred points is a rare accomplishment for a girls’
high school player. You have to average 75 points per season – and do it all
four seasons. High production and consistency; a player has to have both to
reach that lofty milestone. It would be somewhat akin to hitting 2,000 points
in a basketball career. Very rare, indeed.
“Kylie has put up consistent points since her freshman year and has
been a factor for us at Chapelgate since that time. She scores routinely, despite
being face-guarded, double- teamed and even triple-teamed,” said Lettinga.
“Kylie is obviously a phenomenal lacrosse player, but what stands out
along with her athletic ability is her humility. She has honestly been
unaware of which games she would be approaching both the 200-goal mark and the
300-point mark this year. She does not play for herself or for her stats,
and most of the time she cannot even tell you how many points she scored after
a game. I appreciate the leadership she brings to our team; she is dedicated
to supporting and encouraging her teammates as a senior captain, while
bettering herself. She has worked very hard throughout her high school
career and definitely deserves respect and congratulations for achieving the
benchmarks that she has,” added Lettinga.
Ramsland, headed to University of Cincinnati next year to play D1 lacrosse, finished
regular season play with 64 goals and 19 assists, for 83 points. Her
cumulative career total is now 237 goals and 70 assists, for 307 total points (with
play-offs still to go).
Chapelgate ended with a record of 9-4, second in the B-X Division
behind Friends. The Jackets hope to go deep in the play-offs. It’s a good
bet that defenses will be keying on Ramsland.
Congratulations to Kylie Ramsland, DigitalSports Female Athlete of the
Week.
