After being edged by Cloverdale the previous night, the Greencastle softball team rebounded with a 16-3 win on Tuesday night.
Hitting has been an issue for the Tiger Cubs all season. However, on
Tuesday the pounded out 15 hits with four players hitting for multiple
hits.
Sarah Land and Brooke Lewis had three singles each in the game,
while Hannah Spencer and Veronica Sawyer added a double and single
each. Mallory Miller and Briana Baker recorded doubles and Cassie
Alspaugh, Kayla Nobles, Samantha Rising and Becca Seahorn all
contributed singles.
"That was the best at hitting game we've had all year," GHS
head coach Dave Keller said. "This was the most runs that we've scored
in a long, long time in a game. I was pleased with the way they came
out. We hit through the lineup twice in the game. They just played a
really good ballgame."
Miller picked up the win for Greencastle, going the distance and collecting nine strikeouts, five hits and four walks.
Keller also commented on how proud he was that the team could collect itself just one day later and get such a big win.
"I was pleased with the way the girls came back tonight and
played," Keller commented. "I think they were a little upset with the
way they played last night. I think they realized that they didn't give
everything they had like they did all weekend. They got together
themselves and said 'Hey, we're county champs so let's go out there
tonight and prove it.'
"It's amazing what one night will do for you," he said.
The junior varsity also won 4-3 over the Clovers.
Kayla Downing picked up the win for GHS. Jordyn Lewis led Greencastle
with a triple and single, while Carollea Davis added two singles.
