MARSHALL -- The Greencastle tennis team picked up a close 3-2 win Tuesday at Turkey Run.
The Greencastle (7-3) attack was led by the doubles teams, as Carol
LaFoe and Savannah Provie won 6-2, 6-2 and Kristen Flint and Emma
Kaiser won 6-3, 6-3.
For the singles, Marta Torre picked up the lone win, outlasting her opponent in yet another three-set marathon, 6-2, 0-6, 7-5.
"We were tied 2-2 at one point and Marta was still on the court.
She did a great job of coming back in the third set," GHS Coach Trish
Lowe said. "There were several times this year she was the last one on
the court and determined the outcome. I'm just proud of her ability to
stay on task."
No. 1 singles player Kelsey Hennette lost 6-2, 6-4 while No. 3 Kate Babington fell 6-4, 6-2.
The junior varsity defeated the Warriors 8-1. Aubrey Merrell,
Chelsea Samuels, Katie Farris and Hilary Schroeder all picked up
singles wins.
On the doubles side, the teams of Katie Collins and Bridget
Tucker, Brittany Elliot and Katie Kean, Ashley Holmes and Lauren Kenney
and Emalie McClaine and Nicole Boyle all had victories.
"It's been a good season," Lowe said. "I was happy with the
improvement of our JV players. We're looking forward to the future with
them and to sectional for our varsity."
Greencastle takes on Owen Valley at 5 p.m. Friday at the Northview Sectional.
