BOYS VARSITY SOCCER AWARDED NEPSAC BERTH

The Boys Soccer team was awarded a NEPSAC Tournament berth for the second year in a row!! The team completed this past week with a 2-1 record against non-conference opponents BCDS (0-1 loss), Dublin (6-2 win) and Chapel Hill (2-0 win) which strengthened their resume for the berth. The squad earned the #8 seed and will travel to #1 seed , The Watkinson School in Hartford CT, on Wednesday, November 12th for a 2 PM game.

BOYS VARSITY SOCCER SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE

The Boys' Varsity Soccer team's impressive season came to a close yesterday on a chilly late fall day in Hartford, CT. The team fought valiantly to upset the # 1 seed on their home field but found Watkinson's trademark offensive fire power to much to overcome.

The game started out very even as the teams traded goals early in the first half. Watkinson struck first within the first five minutes of play. Gann responded with a goal of their own off the foot of Josh Hoffman-Senn and assisted by Josh Danesh to knot the score only minutes later. Watkinson then showed why they are the # 1 seed by responding with four quick goals in an eight minute span to put Gann in a deep hole heading into halftime.

Faced with a decision to let Watkinson run away with it or fight back, Gann stepped up their play. The squad put forth an outstanding defensive effort in the second stanza by holding Watkinson's explosive offense to only one goal. Unfortunately, Gann was unable to mount an offensive attack of their own and succumbed, 6-1.

Mazel Tov again, however, to the players and Coaches Sid Mazzola and Denis Ruddy on their outstanding accomplishments this season. Gann was expected to experience a rebuilding year this season after graduating the majority of the roster from last year's MBIL championship squad,. Instead the team posted an undefeated regular season record and lost only game overall on their way to repeating as MBIL champs and earning back-to-back NEPSAC Tournament berths!!

JOSH DANESH COMMITS TO NORTHEASTERN

Mazel Tov to senior soccer co-captain, Josh Danesh, for becoming the first student-athlete in the history of Gann athletics to earn an NCAA athletic scholarship to play at a Division 1 college. Josh verbally committed to the Northeastern soccer coach last week and will officially sign in the middle of this month. Mazel Tov as well to Coach Sid Mazzola and Josh’s teammates, past and present, for their support of his development throughout his Gann career.
