Still smarting from a shocking loss to Annapolis Area Christian on Monday night, Cardinal Gibbons found itself locked in another tough contest with a MIAA B Conference school from Anne Arundel County, on Wednesday night, but this time the Crusaders found a way to pull out a victory, 73-63 over visiting Severn, and improve their record to 2-1.
Preparing for their MIAA A Conference tip-off, Sunday afternoon at Loyola, the Crusaders were led by a break-out performance from sophomore guard Dylan Cormier, who made his presence known with a 30-point barrage.
Coach Jeff Cheevers got 18 points from senior Pat Dieringer, as Gibbons broke loose from a 29-29 halftime tie.
The two clubs combined to put on a clinic at the free throw line, as Gibbons sank 16 of 18 attempts and Severn connected on 13 of their 15 foul shots.
Severn fell to 1-1 with the loss. Junior Kelonte Adams led the Admirals with 19 points and senior Ben Montgomery scored 14.
Next, Severn will return home of Saturday (7:00 p.m.) night non-conference test against Anne Arundel Count neighbor Broadneck.
