The Jaguars competed in their first invitational of the season last Saturday at Fort Washington Park. Weather was great for cross country as the temperature was in the seventies and partly cloudy. It was the 5th Annual Prince George's County Invitational, and may have been the best one yet. Several teams from the surrounding counties and the district were in attendance, and all races topped the one hundred mark. "It was great to see some new faces for our kids to compete against" was the remark by numerous Prince George's County coaches.
The boys team was led by senior harrier Troy Brown, who ran an 18:03 earning him a 17th place finish a in a very tough field, led by a Damascus and Glenelg group who combined to place 10 of the first 11 finishers. Two other Jaguars broke 20 minutes; Najee Anderson 19:44, Myron Davis ran 19:52.
The girls team competed well led by senior Tnay Williams running a 21:13 finishing 4th place. She was followed by Danielle Gaynor 6th, Denae Ford 24th, Ameera Teal 32nd Camille Washington 36th . Over-all the team placed third behind Damascus and Glenelg.
The JV race included sophomore Jean Udo and freshman Nicole Franklin. Franklin continued to improve running PR 23:38, placing 7th. Udo also improved performance running a season best 26:22.
Next up for the Jags, the first of two Dual meets, where teams are split into divisions for scoring purposes. On Wednesday, September 30th , its back to Patuxent Park for round one. Next week on October 7th, teams return to the famed Fort Washington Park Course for the final dual meet of the season. The dual meet champions will be awarded during the county championships held later this season.
