09/12/2009 - The Chesapeake AA boys' varsity soccer team defeated Thomas Johnson, 2-1, in overtime Saturday in a non-district game.
Thomas Johnson got on the board first after being awarded a penalty kick with 8 minutes remaining in the first half. The Cougars kept their heads in the game and they were also awarded a penalty kick with only one minute remaining in the first half. Senior defender Joey Milligan, a four-year varsity player, took the shot to tie it up at half time.
After a very tight second half, the score remained knotted at 1 at the end of regulation. But the Cougars pushed hard in the overtime period.
Jared Fohs, another four-year varsity player, took the long throw-in, which found its way to Kolby Herd at the near post. Herd headed the ball to the far post, where Zach Coberly punched it into the back of the net for the dramatic overtime victory.
