 Finished 2nd in Lexington Tournament after defeating two Top 25 teams

Montgomery Co. 5 CAL 3

Six teams entered the weekend tournament in Lexington and #17 CAL (21-9) recorded two victories over Top 25 teams in the state to finish in 2nd place. CAL lost in the championship game to #15 Montgomery Co. by a score of 5-3 after defeating them earlier in the tournament in pool play. Starter Allison Foster (1-2) gave up 4 runs in the first two innings and the CAL offense came up a little short as they started their come back in the 3rd inning. Alison Coggins hit a ground rule double that one hopped the fence and drove in two runs and Suzanne Cooper drove her in with a single. Suzanne Cooper pitched innings 3 through 7 and only gave up on unearned run.

CAL 1 Lexington Catholic 0

Suzanne Cooper (8-4) pitched a 2-hitter as CAL (21-8) defeated #25 Lexington Catholic by a score of 1-0. Cooper retired the first 12 batters she faced and struck out 4 in the game. Amanda Barich led off the top of the 3rd with a single and scored the game’s only run on a error. Kelli Lutz had two hits in the game.

Conner 6 CAL 1

Conner defeated CAL 6-1 after a 0-0 tie through seven innings broke open during the international tie breaker enforced 8th inning which starts a runner on second with no outs when each team comes to bat. After seeing Allison Foster (1-1) a fourth time though the line-up Conner put together a 6-run 8th inning. Allison Foster gave up only 2 hits in the first seven innings striking out 11 Conner hitters. CAL (20-8) responded with one run in the bottom of the 8th as Suzanne Cooper hit an RBI single. The one run was a big one because it allowed CAL to move on to the winner’s bracket based on the “Runs Allowed” tie breaker.

CAL 3 Montgomery Co. 0

Suzanne Cooper (7-4) scattered 5 hits and struck out 5 and recorded the shut-out against #15 Montgomery Co. by a score of 3-0. Alison Coggins led off the game with a single and scored the only run CAL (20-7) would need for the win. Stephanie Hargrove had an RBI triple and two hits all together and Jen Woods stole home for the third run as part of a double steal with Coggins.

CAL 6 Seneca 5

Meg Gardner went 4-4 with two doubles and a triple and scored three runs to lead the offense over Seneca 6-5 on Thursday night. Allison Foster hit a two run double in the top of the seventh to give CAL a 6-4 lead and Suzanne Cooper (6-4) struck out 10 including the last batter with two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh. Stephanie Hargrove hit an RBI double in the first inning and Lauren Wood’s had two hits and 1 RBI.

CAL 12 Atherton 0

Allison Foster (1-0) pitched a no-hitter in her first career Varsity start striking out 8 Atherton batters on Tuesday night. Alison Coggins was 3-4 with three runs scored and Suzanne Cooper was 3-3 with two doubles, a triple, and two runs scored with two RBIs. Stephanie Hargrove also had two hits and two RBIs in the game. Lauren Woods was 2-3 with three RBIs and a run scored.

Nelson Co. 8 CAL 5

Nelson Co.’s pitcher Paige Holt kept the CAL hitters off balance with a good change up as Nelson Co. beat CAL on Monday night. Kelli Lutz and Stephanie Hargrove had two hits each. Alison Coggins also had two hits including a RBI double.
