2008 DIGITALSPORTS ALL-STAR TENNIS TEAM

1st Team
Mike Lampa- Junior,
Ocean- Far and away the top player in the Shore, Lampa went undefeated
against Shore Conference opponents and took home his second consecutive
Monmouth County first singles title. As the second seed in the state
singles tournament, he reached the finals but lost 6-4, 6-1 to the defending
champion from Cherry Hill East, Ravi Yegya-Raman. Lampa finished the
season with a 29-1 record.
Mike Lippens- Freshman,
Shore Regional- This extremely talented freshman compiled a 23-2 record
during his first season of high school tennis, and was only beaten by
Ocean’s Mike Lampa. Lippens reached the finals of the Monmouth County
tournament, and also made it to the round of 16 in the state singles
tournament.
Chris Worosz- Senior,
Pinelands- A DigitalSports All-Star team selection last season, Worosz
didn’t miss a beat during his senior campaign as he won his third
Ocean County tournament. Worosz also had a strong showing in the state
tournament, reaching the round of 16 before falling to eventual champion
Ravi Yegya-Raman. He will attend the US Naval Academy next year.
Dave Sherwood- Senior,
Pinelands- Sherwood, Pinelands’ second singles player, proved his
place amongst the Shore’s top players after going undefeated this
season and earning a place in the state singles tournament. Sherwood’s
only loss of the season came after a three-set battle with the 4th
seed, Will Kendall of Millburn, in the third round of the tournament.
Sherwood will attend Monmouth University next year.
Dan Turtel- Senior,
Ranney- Turtel had a strong showing at the Monmouth County Tournament,
downing Rumson’s Sean Pahler before reaching the semifinals where
he lost to eventual champ, Mike Lampa. Turtel also was the first singles
runner-up in the NJSIAA Prep B state tournament, and compiled a 13-2
record on the season.
Ben Kelly and Evan Steadman-
Rumson-Fair Haven- Kelly, a junior, and Steadman, a senior, provided
Rumson with a critical fourth point they could count on to support their
talented singles lineup, and finished with a record of 22-4. The two
captured the first doubles crown at the Monmouth County tournament,
downing Holmdel’s Dave Lyu and Charlie Seifer in three sets. Steadman
will attend the University of Georgia next year.
