It was never easy, but it was always in control. That is the story of tri-West’s sectional semi-final win over Cloverdale. The Bruins took a 6-4 lead after two minutes of play and never relinquished it the remainder of the night. The result was a 54-48 victory over a gallant Cloverdale squad.
The Bruins survived poor first half shooting by shutting down Cloverdale on the defensive end. They took a 22-16 lead to intermission. The third quarter was a different story. Tri-West started quickly and stretched the lead to 11 at 34-23. Cloverdale would not allow it to ever grow larger, but it was too big a mountain for the Clovers to climb. Clutch free throw shooting in the fourth quarter iced the verdict for Tri-West.
The Bruins were led by the 20 points of Sam Ricks. Cloverdale got a game high 22 points from Elizabeth Cheatham. The talented Clover post player missed much of the season, but was outstanding in the losing effort.
