Jacob Mayers is tough on the mound, but third base may be in his future.
Jacob Mayers, Hanover Hawks

Height: 6-2   Age: 17

Year: Junior   Position: Pitcher/Third base

Performance: Tallied 10 strikeouts in a pivotal 5-1 victory over then-No. 7 Lee-Davis.

Funniest teammate: "Michael Sullivan, because he says some funny jokes."

Best trait: "Probably pitching. I'm very comfortable pitching. I feel like I can basically do anything when I'm on the mound."

Working on: "I've been working on third base. I haven't gotten a whole lot of experience there. A lot of scouts think I will be a perfect fit there."

College choices?: "I've been looking at U.Va. They've been looking at me for a little while now. VMI, Richmond and East Carolina have all offered."

On how offers help performance: "It makes me more confident when I'm out on the field. My confidence level boosts up when I hear from schools."

If you had one wish: "To play pro baseball." Mayers' favorite team is the Boston Red Sox and favorite player is Manny Ramirez."

So what about the Ortiz jersey buried in the new Yankees Stadium: "I thought that was awesome. Babe Ruth was a curse on us when he left for the Yankees. I think it was the best thing because [David] Ortiz owns the Yankees."

Invite any three people to dinner: "Manny Ramirez, Jessica Alba and Dane Cook. That's my boy. That guy is hilarious."
