Survive With Five
The Barstow boys team traveled to Drexel with five athletes and made the best of their circumstances to place 2nd out of six full teams! Missing two athletes for the Varsity race meant the boys could leave no margin for error. Matt Matula would lead the way with a strategic race. Knowing he would have another race coming in two days, Matt would have to start the race in a conservative manner. Working from about 18th place over the first half mile of the 5k course, he tactfully swallowed up runners one by one to snag another 3rd place finish overall! Nolan Christensen ran a completely different race going out hard and holding on with everything he had to run his fastest time ever! He would go on to finish in the top 20 with a 17th place finish. Nolan also has another race in two days, so it will be interesting to see how he responds. Newcomers, Chase Williams and Kory Glasper would run their first race of the year. They both would work together to finish 22nd and 24th. Alex Johnson would once again close the door quickly getting in before every other teams fifth man to finish 29th. Much like Matula, he would run conservative early and pick off runners over the last mile! Alex will be racing in two days as well. Congrats again, to all five of you!
