COVINGTON - Southmont High School boys soccer coach Alan Clifton was amazed at the Mounties' iron will Saturday afternoon.

Despite playing with only 10 players for the last 20 minutes, visiting Southmont rallied for a 4-3 victory over Covington.

Southmont (4-0) had to deal with losing two players to penalty issues.

Sophomore Matthew Bupp received two yellow cards, while sophomore Jacob Carey was disqualified after he committed a foul in the goalie box on a breakaway.

But junior Erik Garcia's foot lifted them to the win.

Garcia scored three goals, including the game-winner with 9:39 remaining.

Senior Kyle Utterback added a goal and an assist, while junior Chris Rash also had an assist.

"We found out about a young team and their determination," Clifton said. "They kept fighting and fighting and wouldn't back down . . . Chris Rash did an outstanding job of holding the backfield together with Utterback and Garcia scoring. We also got great support from Curtis Rose."
