Annapolis High School girls basketball coach DeWayne Wallace announced the college destinations of the four seniors from the Panthers squad.
Four-year varsity performer Jessica Reagans is headed to Spelman College on a partial academic scholarship and will attempt to walk-on to the basketball team. The speedy 5-foot-7 point guard tallied 15 points, four assists and 3.5 rebounds a game for an Annapolis squad (12-12) that advanced to the Class 3A East Region quarterfinals.
"Right when she walked in the door, we knew she was special," Wallace said about Reagans, who chose Spelman over Cornell and Smith College. "She's always had that confidence about herself and turned into a tremendous leader for our team."
Another four-year varsity performer, 5-foot-11 post player Erin Townley, received a full academic scholarship to Virginia Wesleyan and has been invited to play basketball at the school.
Leah Pinkney, the team's leading rebounder, was named MVP of the Anne Arundel County Senior All-Star game and has narrowed her college choices to Pittsburgh or Bowie State, Wallace said.
The team's fourth and final senior, Nia Lateef, played forward and center and will attend Morgan State on a full academic scholarship.
"This senior class helped so much with my transition as the head coach," said Wallace, who took over the Annapolis program before the season. "I can only hope that the returning players try to emulate and build on the foundation laid down by our departing seniors."
Reagans eclipsed the 1,000-point career barrier during the season and Pinkney finished her career with more than 500 rebounds.
