In recent years, the Archbishop Curley football team has been more likely to prevail in a high scoring shootout than a tough defensive battle, but yesterday the Friars did the later, as they emerged from scoreless halftime tie with with St. Paul's to claim a 16-0 MIAA B Conference victory on Friday afternoon. After one year in the A Conference and one as a football independent, this was Curley's first B Conference league game since it captured a share of the 2004 league title.

Milton Budd broke the ice for Curley (2-1, 1-0) with a 3 yard touchdown run in the third quarter and, later that period, junior Joe Petrides registered a sack for a safety to give Curley a 9-0.

Curley, a prolific double-wing rushing team, also broke an offensive trend in the fourth quarter when it scored a passing touchdown. Senior Eric Franklin did the honors as he caught a 27-yard pass from quarterback Marquis Graves. Jake Peery also booted two extra point kicks in the win.

St. Paul's, which has a tough opening schedule, fell to 0-3 on the season as the Crusaders opened their B Conference slate at 0-1.
