Ashburn (Mar. 17, 2009) - Stone Bridge High School opened its 2009 baseball season on a rainy Monday night in Ashburn with an impressive display of offense and solid pitching by seniors  Nick Fialdini, Ryan Cummings and Taylor Tice who combined to allow just two hits in a 11-0 victory over DeMatha.
 
After a scoreless first inning, Stone Bridge blew the game wide open in the bottom of the second.  

Junior Taylor Lambke (1-1 RBI) led off with a walk, senior Bryce Williams singled (1-2) and junior Spencer Brookbank (1-2) got an infield single to load the bases. Senior Pat Piccolo (2-2, 2 RBI) then singled up the middle scoring Lambke and Williams with Brookbank scoring on a throwing error by the catcher.  

Sophomore Spencer Rositano (1-2, 2 RBI) then hit a sacrifice fly to left scoring Piccolo. Senior Michael Prince (1-2) RBI walked and stole second and scored on a triple by senior Johnny Bladel (1-2, RBI). Senior Patrick Thompson (2-3, RBI) continued the assault with a single scoring Bladel.  Thompson then went to third on a errant pick off throw by the pitcher and scored on a single by Lambke batting for the second time in the inning.  

Lambke stole second and then scored when the catcher threw the ball into right field after the ball got by him on a third strike to Williams.  The errors continued as the third baseman booted a ground ball by Brookbank but recovered to throw Williams out at third. 

The Bulldogs continued their assault in the third with Piccolo leading off with a double to right center and scoring on a single by Rositano. The left fielder let the ball get by him, allowing Rositano to go to second.  Then after stealing third Rositano scored on a double down the right field line by Prince.  

Prince took third when the third baseman misplayed a grounder by Bladel.  Prince scored when Thompson hit into a fielders choice finishing out the scoring for the night.   

As impressive as the hitting was the pitching was just as good for Stone Bridge.  Fialdini started for the Bulldogs going three innings and only facing 10 batters, recording three strikeouts.  Cummings pitched the fourth and recorded a strikeout and then Tice completed the shortened game (10-run rule) by striking out the side in the fifth.
