The Baltimore Team, fueled by an opportunistic defense and excellent field position, ended a two-year losing streak to the Metro Team, with an impressive 40-13 win, on Saturday afternoon at McDaniel College, in Westminster.

The contest started in ominous fashion for the Metro squad, as it surrendered a pair of safties in the opening quarter, one on an errant shotgun snap in the end zone and the other, in punt formation, on a long snap that was sent through the end zone.

The Baltimore team also scored the first touchdown, as Poly's Lee Reynolds capped a short drive with a seven-yard run to give his a club a 10-0 lead.  Reynolds also added a six-yard run in the third quarter to cap an excellent afternoon for the speedy Engineer.

At the end of the opening quarter, the Metro team put together an impressive drive behind Linganore quarterback Alex Phelps.  Utilizing a string of slants and turn-in routs, Phelps led the Metro offense into Baltimore territory and then lofted a beautifully thrown 33-yard scoring pass to Frederick wide receiver Steve Long, who broke free down the right sideline.  The score cut the Baltimore lead to 10-7 and that is where it remained through a scoreless second period.

In the third quarter, Baltimore received two scores from Calvert Hall players, as Dan Zentz booted a 20-yard field goal and Justin Strickland intercepted a pass and returned it 27-yards for a touchdown. In between, St. Mary's linebacker Marlon Johnson pick off a tipped pass inside the Metro 10-yard line and Southern's Darrelle Evans capitalized for Baltimore with a two-yard touchdown run.  The flurry turned a close contest into a 27-7 Baltimore lead.

Reynold's second score made it 34-7 at the end of three quarters and Baltimore would tack on one more touchdown, as Meade's Ricardo Wallace flipped a one-yard touchdown pass to J.J. Hicks of Broadneck, in the fourth quarter.  Wallace, who played most of the game at wide receiver and was the game's top ball catcher, was named the game's MVP.

The Metro team was able to crack the scoreboard once more as Phelps completed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Mike McMillan of North Hagerstown.

The win allowed the Baltimore team to even the all-time series with the Metro at six wins each.
