The Hammond Golden Bears improved their record to 14-2 and advanced to the 2A South Regional Semi-finals with an 8-4 win over the Visiting Panthers of Patuxent. The Bears showed a bit of rust as the fell behind early to the Panthers 3-0 after 4 innings. All of a sudden the bats woke up! Joey Logan, Jeff Snyder, Jared Christensen, and Travis Clark hit 4 consecutive singles, the last plated the first Bear run. Tyler Clark, who singled earlier in the game hit a rocket over the right field fence for a grand slam which put the Bears up 5-3. Pitcher Danny Wissman picked up his 6th win of the season going 5 1/3 inning before giving way to Travis Clark. The Bears would add 3 more in the 6th on a solo HR by Jared Christensen and a 2 RBI single by Kevin McVicker. Joey Logan came on in the 7th to pick up his 4th save of the season. The Bears will host the SMAC champion Eagles of North Point on Wednessday at 4pm.
