No. 2 Lake Clifton tops defending Class 1A state champ New Town, improves to 11-1.
Senior guard Antoine Allen scored 15 points and Daniel Horton contributed 10 as No. 2 Lake Clifton defeated New Town, 52-39, at the 12th annual Basketball Academy at Morgan State University Saturday evening.
The Lakers (11-1) built a 31-16 halftime lead against the defending Class 1A state champs, and led, 43-20, after three periods. The east Baltimore school claimed both its contests at the three--day mixer, including a come-from-behind victory over Washington area power Riverdale Baptist Friday evening.
"We got on them [New Town] early and didn't let them get into a flow," said Lake Clifton coach Herman Harried. "We were able to manage the lead."
Junior guard Willie Kee scored 12 of his 16 points in the final frame to lead New Town (5-5). The Owings Mills school played without junior guard Stuart Clark, who was suspended for unspecified reasons.
The Titans will host Carver A&T Wednesday as they begin Baltimore County 1A/2A league competition. Lake Clifton will begin defense of its Baltimore City Division II title Tuesday against longtime east Baltimore rival and No. 20 Dunbar on St. Lo Drive.
