Leon Kinnard is bigger, stronger and faster and with a full year of varsity experience under his belt, there is no telling where the junior quarterback can lead the Loyola offense this year. Yesterday, he led the Dons to 51 points, with two touchdown passes and three rushing scores, as Loyola humbled Jesuit rival Gonzaga (DC), 51-14, in the season opener for both teams, at Blakefield.

In the opening quarter, Kinnard led Loyola quickly down field before putting the Dons on the board with a four-yard scoring toss to Matt Heacock. Less than three minutes later he delivered a beautiful ball to Terence Garvin, who took it 64 yards for a touchdown, and, before the first quarter expired, Kinnard rushed for an 11 yard touchdown run to give the Dons a 20-0 lead over the stunned Bulldogs.

Kinnard scrambled 28 yards, for his second rushing touchdown, early in the second quarter and sprinted 27 yards for his final score, early in the third quarter.

Trailing 30-0 at the half, Gonzaga showed some life as Rodney Gould returned the opening kick of the second half 95 yards for a touchdown, but the Bulldogs did score again until just 1:25 remained in the contest.

Loyola also received rushing touchdowns from Donovan Eaton and Keith Ziemba, while Jeff Timmons converted 6-of-7 extra point attempts and kicked a 22-yard field goal in the second quarter.

Next week, Loyola will travel to Boys' Latin for a Saturday afternoon contest.
