Front Royal (Aug. 6, 2009) - The Loudoun Valley High School golf team didn't like the way their 2008 season ended -- with a long second day in the AAA state tournament -- and the Vikings are out to prove in 2009 that they are one of the top teams in the state. The Vikes laid a solid foundation to that claim with a sparkling 289 team score to take the season-opening, 24-team Curly Licklider Memorial Tournament Wednesday at the scenic Shenandoah Valley Golf Club.

Junior Scott Davidson shot a sizzling 66 to capture the low medalist and lead the Vikes while teammate, senior Zack Bosse also medaled with a 71.

Briar Woods, which had just nine tryout for the squad this season, showed that what it lacks in quantity it makes up for in quality as the Falcons shot a second place 297 with Jon Howard shooting a 69 to medal.

Loudoun County, defending AA Dulles District and Region II champion with most of its roster returning, took third at 307.
