Our Lady of Mt. Carmel recognized five senior players today prior to a today's MIAA C Conference Quarter Final game vs. Towson Catholic. Playing in their last home game were Mark Concordia, Alex Brylske, Damien Allen, Pat Golden and JT Heimiller. The Mt. Carmel Cougars did not disappoint the fans winning a spirited game 7 to 6 over Towson Catholic to advance to the Semi-Finals against powerhouse Baltimore Lutheran on Friday. Mt. Carmel has won 7 of the last 9 games, and will carry some momentum into the upcoming Lutheran game.
Mt. Carmel jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the game only to see the advantage disappear under a solid performance by Towson Catholic, who tied the game at the half. The game went back in forth during the second half with Towson Catholic taking a 6-5 lead late in the 4th quarter. Mt. Carmel tied the game at 6 with 2:00 minutes to play, and Grant Stefanowicz scored the game winner with 35 seconds to play.
Chuck Wills forced a turnover late in the game to seal the victory, while EJ Jackson lead the defense with 5 ground balls. The win was the first post-season win by the Cougars in the last 10 years, and when Coach Ryan Browning was asked about the upcoming game vs. Lutheran he said, "what can you say about the best team in the league thus far in the season. They have an outstanding coach, players and facilities, and we are faced with a big task on Friday".
