For the second straight season, Clarksburg has lost in the playoffs despite entering with an undefeated record.

The Coyotes fell to Middletown, the 2A West No. 3 seed, 21-7, Friday night at Clarksburg. Middletown will face Century next Friday.

“We did not play well,” Coach Larry Hurd said. “We didn’t play very disciplined football.”

Clarksburg (10-1) notched the game’s first touchdown on a 56-yard run by Avery Graham. But Middletown responded in the first quarter with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Rob Michels to Tony Boyer.

Michels threw two more touchdown passes in the second quarter to give Middletown (8-3), its final margin of victory. Michels finished the game 19-of-33 for 218 yards passing.

Clarksburg was doomed by eight penalties for 57 yards and four fumbles, two of which the Coyotes lost.

“Middletown executed perfectly,” Hurd said. “Their quarterback completed almost every pass in the first half. He was awesome. They deserved to win.”

Sherwood Rolls over Northwest

The Warriors showed why they are the 4A West’s top seed Friday night as they had no trouble disposing of No. 4-seeded Northwest, 38-3.

The game was expected to perhaps be closer considering Sherwood needed a comeback to beat the Jaguars, 21-14, on Sept. 26.

Sherwood’s Dominique Davis ran 16 times for 85 yards and three touchdowns of two, three and 41 yards, respectively. Warriors senior quarterback Zack Splain was 4-of-6  for 94 yards and at touchdown passing.
