Senior's double-double leads Admirals to win.

Theres a double-double and theres a monster double-double.

Senior center Taylor Wieczorek had the latter on Monday, putting up bookend numbers of 20 points and 20 rebounds to lead Severn to a 63-31 IAAM B-Conference win over St. Vincent Pallotti, in Laurel.

Thats not 20-20 as in eye-test. Thats 20-20 as in points and rebounds, a game few players achieve. Wieczoreks eyesight is probably 20-20, as well, with numbers like that on the court.

Severn remained unbeaten in the league at 5-0, and improved to 10-3 overall. Pallotti dropped to 3-2 and 5-7.

On paper, this was a re-match of last years B championship teams. It WAS a meeting of the same two programs and schools, but certainly NOT a re-match, as Coach Debbie Skellys Pallotti team is a shell of its former self with four starters lost to graduation. Numerous teams were hit hard by graduation, but Skellys likely the most.

Severn, on the other hand, returns four of five starters, and Coach Chuck Millers group is cruising through the league in 2007-08. Mount de Sales gave Severn its toughest test last Friday, losing by just 11 points. In the other league outings, Severn beat Maryvale Prep by 28, Bryn Mawr by 29 and Chapelgate by 15.

It will be tough to pin a loss on Severn this season, and Wieczorek, the lone senior, is one big reason why. She demonstrated her talent and influence on a game Monday, with that 20-20 performance. Pallotti simply had no answer inside to contend with the 511 senior.

But Wieczorek was not alone. Speedy guard Raven Owen provided a spark off the bench with 11 points and eight rebounds, and Leah Cranmer added 10 points.

The Admirals led 25-11 at the half and never looked back, adding 18 more points to the lead in the second half.

Senior forward Kaitlin OHara led the Panthers with nine points and junior forward Maya Pollock added eight.

Pallotti visits Bryn Mawr today, Wednesday, and then in an odd scheduling quirk, travels to Severn for the second of two meetings between the two this week.

Severn faces a tough challenge today, taking on Anne Arundel foe Old Mill, currently ranked No. 15 in the DigitalSports Top 20 Poll. Millers squad lost by just two, 52-50, to South River, another Anne Arundel public team, last month, and will try to grab a win today.

Then the Admirals host Pallotti on Friday, as the Panthers try to find a way to contain Wieczorek in the middle.
