Staff Report

Generally speaking the Mid-Indiana Conference has to be very happy with the sectional softball pairings. The league avoided any head-to-head first round contests. Here is a quick look at how league teams fared in the brackets.

In 3A, Peru and Maconaquah travel to Fort Wayne Elmhurst. The Tigers will open versus tough Belmont while Maconaquah will take on Norwell. Meanwhile, at Twin Lakes, Northwestern didn’t get any favors. They will open the action against the host, and very powerful, Indians. Western drew into the bye round but must deal with West Lafayette. Hamilton Heights definitely got the best of things at the New Palestine Sectional. The Huskies drew away from all the power by receiving the bye. That, of course, is the site that contains the top ranked New Palestine Dragons.

The 2A pairings are also pretty good for the MIC. Eastern drew Oak Hill in its own sectional while Taylor will follow versus Guerin Catholic. Those two clubs would meet in the second round. Cass is also hosting and the Kings drew North Miami in the opening round.

There is a strong possibility that both 2A sectionals could be won by the host, and the league may spring at least one upset at the 3A sites.
