Wilde Lake Captain Anthony Scafone knew when he took the mound that his team would score some runs. However, he didn’t know that it would take until the seventh inning for the dynamic Lake offense to secure the team a “W”.

Coming into the game, Wilde Lake (6-3) had averaged over 10 runs per contest, and had not lost any game in which they had put double digits in the runs column.

“I was worried that the offense wasn’t going to pull through, especially after the sixth,” said Scafone, who gave up four runs over six innings (two earned) “but when we broke it open in the seventh, I knew we were good”

The Wilde Cats jumped on the board quickly, scoring two runs in the initial inning on first basemen Alex Kempler’s RBI single. Kempler, one of the only two seniors on the team, went 3-4 with 3 RBI’s, including the go ahead run on his seventh inning double.

Not to be outdone, fellow Senior Adam Baxley also reached base 3 times, going two for three with a walk. Along with this, Baxley, the ‘Cats’ catcher and Co Captain threw two runners out on the base paths, including a “strike ‘em out-throw ‘em out” double play to end the game.

Entering the seventh, the game was tied at four a piece with the top of the Wilde Lake batting order due up. By the time the River Hill pitchers accumulated three outs, the Wilde Cats put seven runs on the board, batting around the order once.

With the lead now secure, Scafone left the game, giving way to Sophomore Joe Kelly to pitch a scoreless final inning.

The Wilde Cats offense got support up and down the line up throughout the game, with every starter reaching base at least once.  Shortstop Steven Perdigao and third basemen Matt Holdefer led the way, with both contributing two doubles each.
