Before graduating from Forest Park in 1996, Sean Markley was a goalie on Baltimore City championship-winning teams three out of his four seasons as a starter under then-coach Obie Barnes.
So Markley, as coach of his alma mater, knows a little bit about what it takes to play in the goal.
But for the first full season, Markley will have a girl starting in the goal, full-time, in AnneElyse Barnwell, who is among nine returning starters from a team that went 5-7.
"She's very good," said Markley, matter-of-factly of Barnewell, who is a junior.
Others returning are attackmen Terrell Whittington, Hakeem Godwin and Carlos Younger, a senior and two juniors, respectively.
On defense, there is senior Antwan Dailey, senior Tavon Barksdale and senior Ryan Singletary. And in the midfield, the Foresters return sophomore Brandon Ross and DeWayne Morris.
"I think we're still fairly young in spots, but that we've made some improvements," said Markley, 30. "I think we have a great chance to do better than last year and possibly make some noise in the B Conference."
