Ninety two degrees on the track at race time. The meet directors decided to combine the boys and girls 4x1600 meter runs due to teams dropping out. Charles Larsen led the field through the first mile with Hereford, Loch Raven and Pikesville in the next group. The first group came through in about 4:38.

Catonsville took over after the second leg with Dulaney following in second. Sumanth Kuppalli of Perry Hall highlighted the second leg with a (2:07.4/2:17.1)  4:24.5 split which brought the Gators from 10th place to 5th place. Athletes were complaining about the heat throughout the race and having trouble with nausea.

Catonsville held off Dulaney on the last leg with a 4:52 leg from Cameron Brinks. Corey Hancock anchored in 4:40.2.
Dulaney won the girls race in 22:20 with Chelsea Bush, Michelle Gaeng, Angelica Dinucci and Kelly Rush running for the Lions.

Eastern Tech easily won the girls shuttle hurdles with Jen Bates on the anchor and Hereford for the boys hurdles relay with Colin Goodling anchoring.

In the girls sprint medley, Western Tech’s celebrated 800 relay team decided to move up in distance. Kellie Yarn ran the opening 400 leg coming through in 1:04.59 even though Milford Mill handed off in first. By the end of the next 200 legs, Western was back in front. Jacelyn Gethers ran 26.9 and Jermia Dix handed of in the lead in 25.2. Lauren Campbell drew the short straw and had to run the 800 leg. She came through in a relaxed 69.4 for the first 400 with Milford Mill still in striking distance.  She brought it home the last 150 to win in 4:19.7. Campbell split 2:23.6 for her 800 leg.

In the boys sprint medley in the 2nd heat Mason Campbell of Towson ran down William Finney with a 1:59.5 leg for the win in 3:41.6 . In the seeded heat, Jermol Dix of Western Tech went out to an early lead and handed off in first at 51.6.  Lance Wilkes handled the second leg at 23.0, Floyd Hawkes on the third leg in 22.1 and Shaun Johnson anchoring in 2:06.4 after a 57.5 first 400. Western completed the sprint medley sweep in 3:42.1, but Towson out of the second leg had the fastest time of the day for the overall win.

Girls 3200 Relay    SPLITS     Hereford over Dulaney in 10:04.20.

Boys 3200 Relay   SPLITS      Catonsville over Hereford in 8:35.90

Baltimore County has made a tradition of running an 8x200 relay between the two distance relays to give the distance runners a short break while also letting some jayvee athletes and field event athletes compete. Western Tech won the girls race in 3:32.90  while Pikesville held off Western STES in 3:15.0 to 3:15.3.

The girls distance medley belonged to Dulaney who won by 18 seconds over Hereford in 13:15.80

The boys distance medley looked to be a good race as the weather had cooled and the sun was beginning to go down. Kuppalli led the first 400 of the 1200 leg in 61, but couldn’t hold the pace as he passed through the 800 in 2:07. Ryan Chelton of Hereford and Corey Hancock of Dulaney stayed within chasing distance at the 800. With a lap to go, Kuppalli opened up his stride, but faltered again in the last 100 allowing Chelton to close the gap. Kuppalli handed off in 3:13 with Chelton at 3:17 and Hancock at 3:20 Hereford took the lead at the end of the 400 leg and held it until the 1600 leg. Chris Mills took over the lead at the 800 mark and pulled away to win in 11:04.8 anchoring in 4:34.9.  Mason Campbell of Towson anchored in 4:38 to bring the Generals from 8th to 5th.  DISTANCE MEDLEY SPLITS
