It was the second meeting of
the season between the two, with St. Tim??s winning both games by the same 1-0
score. Sophomore midfield/defender Catherine Bogart added, ??Coaches told us to
double our shots on goal, keep it on the offensive end, and we did exactly
that, we kept pushing the whole game.?
Lori Chin, Fallon
Grandfield, Catherine Mudd and Bogart all played well defensively, executing
the plan to keep the ball on the offensive end. Sam Jackson and Stacey Rubin
were rarely tested, splitting time in goal, as well as helping on defense when
not in the goal.
St. Tim??s improved to 5-7-1, while Key dropped to 1-11-1.
On the soccer field, Greenwald,
a sophomore, scored both goals for Key, while Caileigh Feldman and Kelly Foster
each had an assist. Rosie Duncan notched
five saves in goal. Sheila Anthony had nine saves for St. Tim??s. STS and Key traded first-half goals. Key scored first, but the hosts bounced back
late in the half when junior Becky Leathers scored off an assist from senior Sammy
Lichtenberg.
The second-half was a
defensive battle, but the ??Zags were able to push across the lone goal for the
2-1 win. Key won both meetings between the two this season, and both by 2-1
scores.
Key had the upper hand in
offensive possession, with a 24-12 advantage in shots and 6-3 in corners.
Key Coach Chris Rixham was
pleased with his team??s performance, saying, ??On Thursday, we lost to Mount Carmel, and they outplayed us and deserved to win. It
wasn??t the greatest week, but we battled hard today and deserved the win.? Asked about the game-winning
goal, Rixham said ??It was a corner played into the box. We had noticed that
their keeper tends to come out a lot, and we blocked her off legally, and in
the scramble Jessica was able to come up with the goal.?
Greenwald is used to scoring
big goals. In last week??s match against
first-place Garrison Forest, she scored with 10 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
As for the C standings,
Garrison has already clinched first-place in the Red Division.
But in the Gold Division,
the race will come down to the final match. Key finished with a record of 8-2-2, good for 26 points, and is currently in first. St.
Timothy??s sits at 8-3 after Friday??s loss, with 24 points, and in second place. But STS has one match left, hosting Beth Tfiloh on Tuesday at 4:00. If St. Tim??s wins, it will finish at 9-3 with 27
points, and end in first. Either way, those two teams will finish one-two, with
Mount Carmel in third (7-4, 21 points, one match left).
Said Rixham, about his
Obezags, ??We finished nicely today. We are ready for the play-offs. I don??t
think anyone wants to play us.?
