Digital Sports Hawaii Staff

Kalani used its height and athletic ability in defeating Maui 53-37 in a fifth place consolation bracket game of the girls division one state basketball tournament at Kaimuki High School Gymnasium.

The Falcon defense contained the Sabers top two scorers from the opening round (Heslip 13 points and Ramelb 19 points) allowing just a combined 18 points to the duo.

The Falcons hit on 5-of-9 attempts from the three point line and owned a 49 -30 lead after three quarters. Martin scored a team high 14 points for the Falcons in the first three quarters.

Maui could not connect from behind the three point line (0-for-7) as they did two nights earlier against Farrington in the opening round of the tournament (8-for-13).
