Digital Sports Hawaii is proud once again to announce the Hawaii Girls Basketball Dream Team. Congratulations to Division I champion Punahou and Division II champion Campbell. Here are the top players in the state for 2008:

>Shawna-Lei Kuehu, Punahou—Kuehu finished one of the most dominant careers in state history by leading the Buffanblu to their third title in four years. A tremendously gifted player who overcame a severe knee injury, and proved in the title game win what a clutch player she is.

>Jamie Smith, Iolani—Smith was probably the most dangerous players in the state this past season. The 6-foot senior dominated the boards and scored in bunches to help lead her team to the state runner-up spot.

>Iwalani Rodrigues, Kalani—Rodrigues, who transferred from Roosevelt to play for the OIA champion Falcons this year, is athletically gifted with jordanesque-like moves that allows her to take over a game.

>Shaena-Lyn Kuehu, Punahou—Shawna’s twin sister didn’t have the monstrous offensive numbers, but she was a tremendous defensive player whose athleticism gave opponent’s fits.

>Vicky Tagalicod, Hilo—The Big Island’s top scorer can rattle up the points better than just about anybody, anywhere. She’s so talented that they created a special position for her—point forward.

>Ta Nitra Byrd, Radford—Byrd was injured for the entire pre-season, so she didn’t start once conference play began, but her dominance in the paint was unequaled in the OIA.

>Dianna Zane, Roosevelt—Zane was a joy to watch in the Rough Riders guard-oriented offense. She could pass and score with equal ability.

>Mana Hopkins, Konawaena—Hopkins was yet another dominant scorer in a decade-full of great scorers for the Wildcats; she helped lead them to the Big Island title and the state tournament elite eight.

>Janelle Nomura, Punahou—Nomura was injured for much of the year, but when she returned, she became Coach Mike Taylor’s designated energizer bunny on the court in helping the Buffanblu to both the ILH and state titles.

>Chanel Hirata, Iolani—Hirata was one of the top 3-point threats in the state, with the ability to hit from just about any angle on the court for the state’s second-ranked team.

>Rhianna Farm, Kalani—Farm gave the Falcons a strong post threat and helped lead them to both the OIA East and OIA Red championship titles.

>Kira De Morales, Waiakea—Morales was yet another outstanding talent from the Big island. She helped lead Waiakea into the top ten rankings and then into the state tournament final four.

>Pualei Furtado, Kamehameha—Furtado, the niece of Kalaheo’s Chico, was a chip off the old block, as she scored from all over the court; one of the top 3-point shooters in the state.

>Britni Ronolo, Moanalua—Ronolo was a force in the paint for the Menehunes, as her rock-solid play helped lead Moanalua into the state tournament.

>Brittini Fuller, Radford—Fuller was the outstanding point guard and the glue that helped keep the Rams together during their outstanding season that saw them reach the state semifinals.
