It is with great pleasure that we announce the Digital Sports Hawaii 2008 Boys Basketball Dream Team. Congratulations to Division I champion Punahou and Division II champion Farrington, and all the outstanding players all over the state of Hawaii.
>Kameron Steinhoff, Punahou—Steinhoff set the table for Punahou, established the menu, baked and ate the full-course, and was right there for dessert. In other words, he was a complete player on a team that won the state championship.
>Stevie Austin, Moanalua—Austin was one of the most exciting players in the state; certainly the island’s quickest point guard with a great ability to score and set up his teammates for other scoring opportunities.
>Cheynne Lishman, Kalaheo—Lishman was perhaps the best pure shooter in the state; he could roll off a screen or hit the open jumper with tremendous efficiency.
>Dalton Hilliard, Punahou—Hilliard was one of the most athletic and most dangerous players in the state. He could take over a game when he was hot; a tremendous athlete with a bright future.
>Hogan Rosehill, Kamehameha-Hawaii—The Big Island’s most complete player, Rosehill almost willed the Warriors to the state title.
>Pablo Warner, Iolani—Warner was a great streak shooter who could light up the scoreboard for Doc Mark Mugiishi’s outstanding Raider team.
>Taylor Mounts, Iolani—Mounts was a rarity at Iolani; that is, a post player with size. He had a great shooting touch from mid-range and did a solid job on the boards, as well.
>Austin Lazoff, Konawaena—Lazoff was one of the main reasons that the Wildcats were the talk of Big Island basketball this year. He had a season high 42 points in one game this season.
>Jray Galeai, Kahuku—Galeai transferred in from Utah last year and immediately made his presence know. He’s very athletic and scores in bunches.
>Marcus Holyfield, Mid-Pacific—Holyfield is one of those players who makes you hold your breath; sometimes you can’t believe his athletic skills. Scored 34 points in an upset win over Punahou, and just a junior.
>Kawika Lyons, Kamehameha—Lyons was great example of the hard team-oriented play of the Warriors. A pure shooter, he could take over a game when he got red hot.
>Manti Te'o, Punahou—The state’s top football prospect is also the basketball season’s top rebounder. Te’o uses his linebacker toughness to control the boards and make the tough inside points.
>Michael Makinano, Campbell—Makinano is one of those players who starts shooting the moment he walks into the gym. The Saber senior is a threat to score from both inside and outside and loves to take his defender 1-on-1.
>Obie Woods, Aiea—Woods helped lead Na Alii to an unbeaten regular season and then was a scoring machine throughout the post-season as Aiea finished as the Division II runner-up.
>Christian Hernandez, Farrington—Hernandez, the Division II tournament most outstanding player, scored perhaps the most exciting basket of the season, a running 3-pointer at the buzzer to send his Governors into overtime and their eventual win in the DII championship game.
