Opportunistic Decatur Central turned in an offensive power display coupled with considerable resilience May 5 in measuring Class 4A No. 8 Franklin Central, 6-4, in nine innings in the championship game of the 2008 Marion County Softball Tournament at Ben Davis Softball Complex.

Both title-round combatants survived semifinal-round confrontations that featured rare finishes.

Franklin Central, seeking its second county crown in three years, advanced by defeating 1A top-ranked Lutheran, 1-0, when the lone run of the game trotted across home plate on a bases-loaded hit batsman in the bottom of the eighth inning. In a battle of unranked 4A schools, Decatur Central advanced by edging Pike, 1-0, when the only run of the contest streaked across home plate on a delayed steal with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.
